Light Yagumi ha encontrado un cuadernillo que lleva escrito en su portada el significativo nombre de "Death Note". Pronto se le aparecerá Ryuuk, un ser responsable del mismo que se verá obligado a contarle el funcionamiento de la libreta: el nombre de la persona que allí se escriba morirá trágicamente.
